I offer my art as something a little different, unique and thoughtful - Art not only fun and decorative but RE-purposed. Each piece incorporates salvaged fabric and other rescued textiles that were doomed for the landfill. I consider this a Green art form and I am having a wonderful journey in creating these special one of a kind wallhangings.
These works of art are as individual as you and I and it is my hope you will claim one for yourself or a friend and share The Art of KAPOW! (The word KAPOW was created by my friend Michael Downing as he enjoys creativity with words - Thanks Michael!)
Lately, I've been busy designing and sewing and my art will be in various galleries around Atlanta. As work is hung, I will have a list of galleries for you to visit. Below are two which were my first completed works and are currently on display (and for sale) at Kings Bridge Art Gallery in Decatur, GA.
Please contact me for details on availability and prices.
Title: The Milkyway and the Rain Garden
May 2009
Size: 23" wide x 50" long (dowel is 36" long)
The Milkyway is the one on the left - alternating panels of seafoam/blue/green floral and velvet fabric with buttons(stars) and sequined trim (the milkyway) cast about the universe. The Rain Garden on the right - is bolder with red and white cabbage roses interupted by velvet blocks with buttons and amber colored tear drops that appear to rain upon the garden. The top and bottom edges of both tapestries feature layers of ball and bullion fringe and baubles and are secured with the decorated leather tabs. Simple brass rods hold the tapestries. You may display this artwork in an open passage way or in an area where there is a higher ceiling so both sides can be enjoyed by all.
Title: The Garden Walls of Spring and Fall
May 2009
Size: 21'wide x 50" long (dowel is 36" long)
On the left is Spring and Fall is on the right. This work focus's on the Garden Wall as much as the garden florals. Gold tassel fringe runs throughout both sides and is straightforward with it's design. I Imagined a stone garden wall with the ivy manicured close while the shrubbery is a little wild and overgrown. The yellow/green and blue of Spring is light hearted and Fall has the overtones of the darker colors found on those overcast days of autumn. Green leather tabs hold the tapestry. A brass rod supports the piece. You have flexibility in how to display this work since it can be enjoyed from both sides as the previous work explains.
